Abakua
| The music of the Abakua society is another very important form of Cuban music that is based on a 12/8 feel. It originates from the Efik people who live near the Calabar river that borders Southeastern Nigeria and the Cameroon. The Abakua society is a male secret society, and their music is rooted in a bell pattern from which the rumba clave owes its origin, so its importance to overall Cuban music cannot be overstated. Its rhythm and songs are both unique and special, and we show you the parts from both Matanzas and La Habana in this section. | ||||
